Sichon is the second northernmost district in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. It’s long and beautiful sandy beaches are yet sparsely visited and well worth being discovered. The northernmost beach, Khao plai dam, is popular amongst local people for a day vacation. It is catered by several food stalls and a restaurant and features a giant cage for tropical birds. Sichon is one of several possible targets, amongst Songkhla and Had Yai, for the proposed Southern Seaboard megaproject. It practically would turn the whole area, as shown on these pictures, into a huge industrial zone featuring an oil refinery, oil tanker terminal and to be connected to the Andaman sea on the west coast of Thailand by an oil pipeline.Fortunately the sheer scale of the project has so far prevented its realization.
